Anna Maria Luisa dei Medici and her “Family Pact”

Today a nice and interesting historical representation has been performed at Pitti Palace. On February 17, 1743 Cosimo III daughter died. Before though, on October 31 she wrote the “Patto di Famiglia”, the Family Pact, signed with Francesco di Lorena, the new Grand Duke of Tuscany. Anna Maria Luisa was the last Medici heiress and made sure that all the Medicean Art and Treasures, Artworks, Galleries, Jewellery, remained at the city of Florence! All the world has to say thank to Maria Luisa. Because of her, all the Artistic Heritage belonged to the Medici Family couldn’t ever be moved away from Florence! So, when you will be visiting Uffizi or Pitti or Palazzo Vecchio, only to mention the most famous museums in Florence, remember that it’s just because of “that Lady”’s intelligence!

The “show” reminds of that moment and tells about the most famouse article of the contract, article number III, written on October 31, 1737.  Below, the italian version:
«La Serenissima Elettrice cede, dà e trasferisce al presente a S.A.R. per Lui, e i Suoi Successori Gran Duchi, tutti i Mobili, Effetti e Rarità della successione del Serenissimo Gran Duca suo fratello, come Gallerie, Quadri, Statue, Biblioteche, Gioie ed altre cose preziose, siccome le Sante Reliquie e Reliquiari, e loro Ornamenti della Cappella del Palazzo Reale, che S.A.R. si impegna di conservare, a condizione espressa che di quello [che] è per ornamento dello Stato, per utilità del pubblico e per attirare la curiosità dei Forestieri, non ne sarà nulla trasportato, o levato fuori della Capitale, e dello Stato del Gran Ducato».
